HOME MADE CHAR SIEW

Serves 3-5
(Prep.time 5 hours)

Ingredients:

  • 500g of pork belly (skinned and cut into thick strips)

  • Gula Melaka (100g)

  • Marinate:

      - 1 piece of garlic

      - 4 tablespoon of light soy sauce

      - 2 tablespoon of Shaoxing wine

      - 1 tablespoon of oyster sauce

      - 1 tablespoon of thick soy sauce

      - 1 small piece of cinnamon stick

      - 1 piece of star anise


To make it:

  • Using a fork to pork holes all over the pork belly. Marinate pork belly with Marinade for at least 4 hours.

  • To make sauce: In a saucepot, boiled the water. Add Gula Melaka, pork belly and leftover the Marinade. Cook over medium low heat for 30-45 minutes until the sauce is thick and sticky. After that, remove the pork belly and reserve the sauce for later use.

  • Heat up 2 tablespoon of oil in a pan, pan fry pork belly until the surface is slightly burnt.

  • Boiled the sauce and pour over pork belly.

  • Cool the pork belly before slicing.
